Why do bad things happen?

To read the full mini-book, visit me on Instagram.

I generally try to distance myself from American politics.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Firstly, I’m not American.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Secondly, the orange monster infuriates me beyond what I can physically tolerate.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes though, like following the debate, I can’t help but get drawn in.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I mean- this man is just incomprehensibly cruel.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I hear him talk and I want to run down the street screaming, “He’s a RACIST! A MISOGYNIST! A LIAR!”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

”HOW DO YOU GUYS NOT SEE THIS?!”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“He is clearly a BAD GUY!”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Personally, I do believe that there is pure evil in our world.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But even as I express that statement, I can feel the constrictive energy associated with it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It makes me want to lash out.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It makes me want to fight.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It makes me want to annihilate the “Bad”. To claim my side as “Good”.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But the trouble with “Bad” is that it’s a moving target. A label that changes depending on which side you’re on.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fact: What I consider bad, you might consider good.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Example: Somehow, Trump has supporters.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If “Bad” and “Good” are fluid and subjective, then why do we bother trying to place them inside those boxes?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What if “Bad” vs “Good” is only serving to distract us from the much more true and far more important distinction of our time:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

WHOLE    VS.    FRACTURED?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The question becomes not “Who is Bad” and “Who is Good”, but:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“Will this bring us closer to wholeness, or only serve to further our fractures?”
