AN ENERGETIC READING ON ENDOMETRIOSIS
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since I’m a writer, I look for the symbolism in everything.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I often wonder whether this life is meant to be taken literally or like a metaphor. Our very own allegory.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“If I’m the main character in my novel, what meaning would I give this event?”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So when I was diagnosed with endometriosis last year, after 6 years and 7 doctors (!) investigating my symptoms, I started to wonder not only about how I can diminish my pain, but what the symbolic meaning of endometriosis is for me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most people don’t know what endometriosis is (in fact most doctors aren’t even sure despite the fact that endo affects 1 in 10 women). So allow me to explain:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Endometriosis is when the tissue that lines the uterus creeps outward and attaches itself to other places in the body. When it does, it still behaves like uterine tissue, swelling and bleeding and hardening and adhering itself to nearby organs. Ouch.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For me, here’s my read:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The uterus is the most creative organ we have as women.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What’s happening in my life if my creative energy is so big, so eager, so determined, perhaps feeling so trapped inside the small, dark space it currently occupies, that it feels the need to push outward and wreak havoc?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Angrily strangling out otherwise healthy organs just minding their own damn business?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hardening where it should be soft and fluid?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Better yet, might it be possible to diminish my physical symptoms by tending to my creative needs?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Focusing on creative writing work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Speaking my true feelings.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Activities that fill up my soul (reading, live music, ballet).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Meditating to clear stagnant energy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What message is my soul sending me by manifesting these physical symptoms?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And how can I better listen and support her?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
