A Message for the New Year

Guys, typically on New Year’s Eve I’d be feverishly setting goals.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This year I can tell you: I have ZERO desire to set goals.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I went into 2020 hell bent on achieving a bunch of stuff. When the pandemic hit I vowed to never let it change my plans.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And yet, of course, not surprisingly, it totally changed all my plans.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So, for the first time in my life, I started investing in coaching courses and therapy.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Initially I did so because I thought they would help me plow through the bullshit of 2020 and achieve anyway. ACHIEVE AT ALL COSTS.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I felt like I needed to bring in the big guns. Really get my mind wired tight so I could MAKE THOSE GOALS HAPPEN DAMMIT.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Can you see where this story is headed?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The courses and the therapy didn’t deliver me my goals.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Instead, they broke me open.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

They showed me all the ways I had been hurting and hiding it- even from myself.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And a way forward so that eventually I might not hurt so much anymore.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I went in looking to achieve GOALS and what I got was: Empathy for myself, a little more self-worth (it’s an uphill battle), an intense passion for mining the depths of my soul to Figure Some Shit Out.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve stopped reading “Money” books and started buying crystals, smudging my house, participating in moon rituals...

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Wtf?! 2020, you were a funny one. (In a not so conventionally funny way.)

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

All that to say, sometimes you go on a journey looking for one thing, and by the end you realize you needed something else entirely.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My only goal for 2021 is to live in greater integrity with my soul.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

That’s it.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This year, let’s keep it simple guys.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The world needs our joy more than our control.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Let’s roll with the punches.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Enjoy the present moment.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Revel in the tiny miracles of everyday life.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“We’ll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne”.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy New Year. Thanks for joining me here and reading my words. It means more to me than you could possibly know.
